Summary
TokyoDev Talks returns for its twelfth installment at Tokyo Innovation Base, bringing together engineers from notable tech companies in Japan for two talks on working with AI. The evening opens with doors at 18:30, drinks and a light meal, and time to network before the presentations begin at 19:00. The first talk, by Paulo D'Alberti (Software Engineer at Kraken), reflects on the productivity tradeoffs of learning a new programming language by leaning on LLMs. After years of Ruby, he switched to Python on joining Kraken and chose to dive in with heavy LLM assistance rather than studying the language first, then weighs whether that was a good idea. The second talk, by Andrew Daley (Applied AI Product Manager at Yoii), covers agentic prompt and context engineering, looking at DSPy and ACE from Stanford as ways to treat prompts like code: parameterized, version-controlled, optimizable, and portable across vendors. The event is open to software developers, those aspiring to be one, and adjacent roles such as product managers, designers, and QA engineers. It closes with open networking from 20:05. Note that TiB requires a free separate registration, best completed in advance.
