Summary
Social Hack Day is Code for Japan's recurring one-day hackathon. Participants bring ideas for solving social problems or ongoing civic tech projects, recruit collaborators, and build services together hands-on. It runs in person at a venue in Tokyo (Nakano City), with remote participation over Zoom.
The day moves from opening, introductions and project pitches into two development blocks with a mid-day check-in and team shuffle, ending with progress and results presentations. A guide for first-timers starts at 10:45. Participants include engineers and designers as well as healthcare, education and legal professionals, government staff and NPO workers. There is a small participation fee, and light catering is provided.
About the community
A civic tech community that uses technology to address social issues. Engineers, designers, public servants, NPO staff and domain experts meet at a monthly hackathon to keep growing projects over time.
