Summary
The first session, "Thinking Machines", of a beginner AI course series at TIB FAB on the 2nd floor of Tokyo Innovation Base. Using Google Colab to run Python in the browser, participants follow the development of AI from the Turing test through perceptrons to multilayer neural networks, combining short lectures with hands-on implementation.
Topics include the difference between rule-based AI and machine learning, building a simple rule-based chatbot with conditionals, training a perceptron on AND and OR and seeing why a single-layer model cannot learn XOR, and solving XOR with a multilayer network and backpropagation in PyTorch while visualizing the loss. Aimed at programming beginners and anyone who wants to understand how generative AI works from the ground up. Ages 15+, capacity 5, free. Bring a laptop and a Google account; TIB app membership registration is required.
About the community
TIB FAB is the makerspace inside Tokyo Innovation Base, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's innovation hub. It runs small-group hands-on courses from beginner to advanced level on 3D printing, electronics and AI, mainly for working adults who want practical technical skills or plan to start a hardware business.
