Summary
Plug and Play Japan and Mighty Net are co-hosting the Japan-Taiwan Deeptech Gathering, a three-hour afternoon session at Plug and Play Japan's Tokyo office focused on cross-border co-creation in deeptech. The event examines how Japan and Taiwan — both facing shared challenges like demographic decline and geopolitical shifts — can leverage highly complementary strengths in semiconductors, electronics, AI, and healthcare to build next-generation industries.
The program opens with introductions, followed by a keynote from Toshiaki Konno (Venture Partner, Darwin Ventures — Taiwan's largest deeptech VC). A panel discussion brings together investors from Sony Ventures, TEL Venture Capital, Mighty Electronic / Mighty Net, and Darwin Ventures to compare Taiwanese VC, Japanese CVC, and startup perspectives on concrete collaboration cases. Startup pitches feature hardware and biotech companies including BallWave (ball SAW gas sensors), SPACEVLEO (LEO-satellite UAV comms), Calyx (AI smart-farming), O-ID (humanoid robotics), Coherence Biotech (AI drug-discovery automation), CancerFree Biotech (tumor-organoid oncology platform), and Xensur Medical (surgical training).
The session is aimed at large enterprises and startups exploring Taiwan partnerships, VCs/CVCs active in electronics, semiconductors, or healthcare, and Japanese companies considering Taiwan expansion. It closes with a one-hour networking reception.
